Sooner or later everyone will need a lawyer for something, whether to draft a simple real estate contract or handle complex litigation. How you approach finding the right lawyer for the task at hand can make a big difference in the outcome of your legal matter, much the same way as selecting a doctor for a surgical procedure. A lot of your success will rest on how you chose your lawyer in the first place.

Keep in mind that you are not looking for a best friend, but rather a person with whom you will be developing a professional relationship with, and expect nothing more-or-less-than professional treatment.

Avoid picking a lawyer based on a television or radio ad alone. The only sure thing you are getting for your money from these lawyers is so-called "bulldog" or "strong arm" acting, something that does not sit too well with judges.

Similar principles apply to selecting a lawyer from a phone book ad alone, as the flashy phone book ads have little or no correlation with quality lawyering.

Granted, every lawyer is in the phone book, so you might get lucky by a random choice, but there are much better ways in choosing your lawyer than random chance based upon what catches your eye in the phone book, the t.v. or radio alone.

One of the first places to start when looking for a lawyer is to ask friends, relatives and acquaintances for recommendations. As with any business, word of mouth is the best advertising. It is one of the best ways to find out who has done well-poorly from people whose judgment you value. Then look at the lawyer's background, their values and experience with the type of legal matter you have. You want someone who looks like a good fit as well as someone you can trust and be comfortable with. Just as important, you want a lawyer who is comfortable with you and your situation.

To find out if we are the right lawyers for you we encourage you to contact one of our experienced attorneys to discuss your legal needs and if necessary schedule a face to face meeting so that you can determine whether you are comfortable with our abilities and professionalism.
